InverTracePlus Projects

Constrained Sparse Spike Inversion

Tuning in the seismic data can make a reservoir appear thinner or thicker than it really is, depending on whether the reservoir thickness at that point is causing constructive or destructive interference. InverTrace®Plus removes nearly all tuning from your seismic data, allowing for a much more accurate reservoir interpretation compared to using the seismic alone. In addition, the acoustic impedance values produced by InverTracePlus can be related to reservoir parameters such as porosity through well log crossplots.

The workflow for InverTracePlus projects generally follow these steps:

Application of InverTracePlus to the Amberjack Field highlights the significant benefits of this process. Tuning effects inherent in the seismic data caused expensive drilling mistakes to be made while developing this field. Prior to performing the inversion, the client was making drilling decisions based on seismic amplitude interpretation.

The technology used in our software makes it the only tool available which is capable of fully solving the wedge model with its constructive and destructive tuning effects, thus providing unprecedented accuracy by eliminating these effects from the data. On the Amberjack data, a significant increase in resolution was obtained and this facilitated a more accurate reservoir interpretation.

The Amberjack Field could have been developed much more economically had drilling decisions been made based on InverTracePlus inversion data.  A quantitative assessment of acoustic impedance and porosity resulted in a Net Pay map used for subsequent well planning.
