January 2012RockMod Technique Produces Highly Detailed 3D
Successful Well Spacing
Cross Section
Fugro's RockMod Technique Produces Highly Detailed 3D Reservoir Models. Optimising a production drilling pattern was the goal of a recent Fugro project in Russia’s Timano-Pechora field. Seismic inversion proved to be the most advanced, accurate and reliable method of reservoir characterisation and the resulting reservoir model provided the detailed information needed for success.

Lithology and fluid discrimination using P-wave AVO attributes in the Delhi Field, Louisiana
First Break
Lithology and fluid discrimination in the Delhi Field, Louisiana has been achieved with the combined use of well log and seismic data. Well log analysis shows that P-impedance alone is not sufficient to distinguish between lithologies. In contrast, a cross-plot of well log P- versus S- impedance shows a separation between the reservoir sandstone and shale. We also used Gassmann’s fluid substitution method to simulate various fluid scenarios and demonstrated that the same cross-plot technique can be used to distinguish between reservoir fluids.

Unlock the value of seismic data
Next Generation Oil & Gas
Seismic data and reservoir properties derived from it are frequently under-used by oil and gas asset teams because they lack the tools to properly interpret and incorporate the results. Fugro-Jason's David Timko discusses how technology can enable asset teams to fully realise the value of their seismic data.

Desktop data
Next Generation Oil & Gas
Seismic derived rock properties are frequently under-used by oil and gas asset teams because the tools to properly interpret them and incorporate the results into the standard workflow have been seen and sold as “specialist tools”. Joe Jacquot discusses how, with the advent of Microsoft Windows-based technology from Fugro-Jason, asset teams can now fully realise the value of their seismic data.

Geostatistical inversion – Building detailed, realistic 3D rock and reservoir models

Next Generation Oil & Gas
Geostatistical inversion is far more than simply constraining simulations to seismic data. It is about using geostatistical information in addition to a convolutional model and a wavelet and truly inverting from the measured 3D seismic data to the rock properties of interest.

3D Contrast Property Mapping
GeoExPro
One of the major challenges in understanding the nature of the subsurface is to accurately depict geology when data is sparse. By combining well logs and seismic data, seismic inversion can be used to visualize subsurface geostructures in a realistic form.

Agile Petrophysical Analysis
Next Generation Oil & Gas
Informed decisions in exploration and production begin with a good understanding of the subsurface. Placing the next well, how to maximise production or the best approach to secondary recovery – such decisions improve when supported by petrophysical evaluation. Time is a rare luxury in these decisions and, regardless of complexity, the analysis must be completed rapidly to be useful.

The ideal reservoir model is now possible using a fully integrated Seismic to Simulation (STS) workflow

Next Generation Oil & Gas
The ideal reservoir model is the repository for all the information you have about the reservoir – petrophysical, geological, geophysical, and production information. In the ideal world, this model will, without major modification, replicate the production history of the field in a dynamic simulation, predict drilling and production results years into the future, and enable you to compare development scenarios, among other things. But this is seldom the case, so how do you construct such an accurate and reliable model?

Model for Success
Next Generation Oil & Gas
Reservoir modelling is a crucial tool in the hunt for those elusive hydrocarbons. But what are the best techniques and technologies for getting the most out of modelling from seismic data? O&G speaks to two experts to get their thoughts and advice on the key issues.

Reservoir modelling — new iterative workflow and software enables models to remain current

Next Generation Oil & Gas
Reservoir modelling has long been a best practice as a practical component of ongoing field management in the oil and gas industry. A revolutionary new dynamic workflow has been developed by Fugro-Jason, saving time over existing approaches and allowing operators to keep the reservoir model up to date while also keeping to drilling schedules.
